Sugar Skulls Recipe
A traditional dessert/decoration on Mexico’s Halloween, called Dia de los Muertos. Sugar Skull molds are easily available with a quick Google search. A great activity for the kids, who wouldn’t love to decorate a small skull made of sugar!
Ingredients:
Skulls
1 Egg White
1/2 tsp. Vanilla
1 Tbsp. Corn Syrup
1 to 2 Cups Icing Sugar
2 Cups Powdered Sugar
Cornstarch
Directions:
Mix the egg white, vanilla, and corn syrup in a bowl. Sifting in the icing sugar. Then mix the powdered sugar in with a wooden spoon. When the mixture is almost incorporated, start kneading with the tip of your fingers until you can form a small ball.
Dust with cornstarch and keep on kneading until it’s smooth. Put the dough into a plastic bag and chill. It can be left there for several months. When ready knead the dough into the molds, and let them harden. Paint the figures when they are dry. You can use colored icing.
